Bex Burch is a composer, producer and improviser. Fundamentally she believes in the transformative power of sound and aims to create music which resonates. She builds her own instrument (augmented gyil), and makes music in the jazz+ community drawing from a wide range of influences including classical, minimalist and Dagaare Ghanaian.
Bex was apprentice to Dagaare xylophonist Thomas Sekgura, formed influential band Vula Viel in 2015, has performed live on BBC 6 Music for Gilles Peterson, Café OTO, Total Refreshment Centre, WOMAD, Moers Festival, Bezau Beatz, Willisau Jazz Festival and Music Meeting as Artist in Focus.
Bex is involved in multiple collaborations with Peter Zummo, Kuljit Bhamra, Magnus Mehta, Hector Plimmer, Max Hallet, Emanative, Tamar Osborn, Leafcutter John and more coming.
As well as writing and performing music, Bex mixes, produces records and curates radio shows including BBC Radio 4’s Four Thought, BBC6 Music’s Freakzone playlist, and Worldwide FM including a guest mix for Steve Reed Foundation Day (https://worldwidefm.net/show/steve-reid-foundation-day-bex-burch/).
