ARK HIVE OF LIVE: AN EVENING WITH ANDREW POPPY
Andrew Poppy: a composer, musician, vocalist and producer with a unique body of eclectic work mixing acoustic, electronic sounds with spoken and sung language, images and performance: from 1980s records for the legendary ZTT label, helmed by Trevor Horn and Paul Morley, to large scale works performed by BBC Concert Orchestra to recent albums ‘Shiny Floor Shiny Ceiling’ and ‘Hoarse Songs and the latest ‘Jelly’, released to unanimous acclaim in the autumn of 2022.
As an arranger, Poppy’s credits stretch from Psychic TV to Erasure and in this very special evening to mark the arrival of ‘Ark Hive of A Live’ a limited edition book and 4 CD set of previously unreleased live recordings from the last thirty years, Andrew will discuss his astonishingly varied career with the author Travis Elborough. He will be performing ‘Almost the Same Shame’ in person and the conversation will be accompanied by a selection of video pieces compiled by his long-term collaborator Julia Bardsley.
Copies of Ark Hive of a Live will be on sale on the night.
‘Andrew Poppy keeps getting lost, and he keeps coming out alive, in a world crowded with composers, and history, and noise, and there is always a sense he has, even when he was on a pop label, that maybe his music will be heard, maybe it won’t. But it has to be here. And here it is. One way or another, it survives. It’s happened. It happens’. – Paul Morley
