Belle Chen / Tangram Double Bill at Chinese Arts Now Festival
Tangram, a new artist collective, launches at Chinese Arts Now Festival, performing music for flute, yangqin and percussion including a world premiere by Alex Ho.
Tangram is formed of four talented musicians, creating and performing new Chinese music. Daniel Shao (flute), Reylon Yount (yangqin), Beibei Wang (percussion), and Alex Ho (composition) have each woven different paths between Chinese and Western music, working with the likes of Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, the European Union Youth Orchestra, and the composer, Tan Dun. Through music, the artists question conventional conceptions of ‘Chinese’ and ‘Western,’ and open a window into the space that exists beyond those definitions.
