Celebrating Finnissy at 70 + his students + Ives / Busoni / Grainger
This event celebrates the legacy – both a composer and teacher – of Michael Finnissy in his 70th year. Pianist Jonathan Powell presents a programme that explores various facets of Finnissy’s identity – modernist, folklorist and his affinity with American experimentalism and vernacular – with music from the early 20th century (Busoni, Grainger, and Ives) juxtaposed with Finnissy’s own works. The picture is completed by a wealth of talent displayed by his students including Cassandra Miller (with the world premiere of a collaborative work written with Finnissy), Morgan Hayes, Alwynne Pritchard, Gabriel Erkoreka, Fung Lam, Tom Armitage, Luke Stoneham, Ed Hughes, Andrew Toovey, Adam de la Cour, Fung Lam, James Weeks, and Geoff Hannan.
7pm start, tickets on door.
