CODA: Player Piano
The Player piano is a mechanical piano, by pedaling air to small bellows inside the piano, the piano-hammers will hit the piano-strings. The score is a very long paper roll which is placed in-between the piano mechanics.
By physically punching holes in the roll, one can create a musical score for this player piano. After discovering, fixing and researching the instrument at Birmingham Conservatoire, Martin Perkins and Maya Verlaak decided to organise a project with the instrument. For several months, they mentored several composition students, writing a piece for the instrument. Come hear the results!
CODA is a two-day Festival to celebrate the closure of the old Birmingham Conservatoire building.
On 19th and 20th June there will be concerts at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 7pm, 9pm, 11pm
