Composer Social (West Midlands)

On Tuesday, 21st July, join us for our first ever Composer Social for composers and creators in the West Midlands. For composers of all genres and career-stages, this session will allow you to network with others and to support and enhance the artistic community in your area.

As composers take on more responsibility for self-producing performances of their works, it has become clear to us there is a need for regional networks to exist that provide meeting points to share learning, discuss the challenges of contemporary music making and feel part of a wider community.

This first session will be facilitated by Birmingham-based pianist, composer and educator, David Austin Grey. David has worked throughout the UK and performed internationally, including residencies and collaborations in Brazil, The United States and South Asia. A graduate of The University of Birmingham and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, David has worked with such well-respected artists and institutions as Birmingham Royal Ballet, British Council, Courtney Pine, Eliza Shaddad, Freya Roy, Soweto Kinch, Xhosa Cole, Michael League, Black Voices and Snarky Puppy.

If you’re someone making music in the West Midlands join us for our first online meet-up on Tuesday 21st July at 7.30PM.

Please note: given the current circumstances surrounding COVID-19, we will be running this session digitally via Zoom. You will need to register for a free Zoom account and download their software.

The Composer Social is part of a new initiative by Sound and Music. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Will Dutta, Head of Artist Development, at will.dutta@soundandmusic.org
