CORPORA ALIENA: TERRA INCOGNITA

IKLECTIK presents,

CORPORA ALIENA: TERRA INCOGNITA

Wednesday 20 October 2021 | 7:30pm (doors 7pm)

Tickets: £8 Advance / £10 OTD (fees apply) https://buytickets.at/iklectik/581691

Corpora Aliena is pleased to present a concert of experimental music based on the theme of ‘Terra Incognita’ – which literally means ‘unknown land’ or uncharted territory. The term could be used in a literal sense – or as a metaphor to describe any unexplored subject – field of research – or musical ideas. The concert consists of new sonic explorations and cutting-edge technologies – and features pioneering composers – sound artists – and musicians – and includes: Pietro Bardini – Bernhard Living – Lucie Stepankova (Avsluta) – and Pascal Savy.

Pietro Bardini will be presenting ‘AEco.16o/1i’ a sound composition generated by an ecosystemic algorithm that learns how to sing by interpreting its ancestry. This piece will be performed live by manipulating the system’s variables, the resulting composition is an exploration of the buried frequencies in the algorithm’s own ancestors. The dynamics of the piece are not predefined, its structure will emerge during the performance and is a dialogue between the performers, myself and the digital ecosystem.

For this concert Bernhard Living will perform a new work – entitled ‘Composition 2021.12 (Arnold Schoenberg)’ – and will take a historical perspective of the idea of Terra Incognita. He has based his composition on a twelve-tone row from Arnold Schoenberg’s ‘Suite for Piano’ – giving it a new digital identity. Composed a hundred years ago in 1921 – Schoenberg’s ‘Suite for Piano’ ventured into the ‘unknown land’ of atonality and serialism.

Pascal Savy’s contribution will be a new audio-visual composition inspired by the work of David Lynch.

For her performance Avsluta (Lucie Stepankova) will be working with objects – natural materials – field recordings – electronics and digital processing to embody speculative narratives challenging our understanding of reality.
