Layer Upon Layer Upon Layer
Layer Upon Layer Upon Layer is a new 4DSOUND installation by Ivor Novello-nominated composer Alex Groves.
The piece is a kind of sonic map, charting places both real and imagined, internal and external, emotional and physical. It’s both a sonic geography of the composer’s life and a wide open landscape for others to explore. Inspired by the walks, sculptures and text pieces of artist Richard Long, the work turns field recordings into an abstracted landscape which is simultaneously loaded with meaning and yet waiting for a listener to define it.
Layer Upon Layer Upon Layer was commissioned by the Richard Thomas Foundation and is being presented at Stone Nest as part of a festival of spatial sound.
