A selected programme of new music by some of the most talented composers based in the UK exploring language and music. We take you on an eclectic journey from the Far East via female sexuality to the common place and humble tea bag. How do you integrate Japanese Utai chant or the pitch and rhythm of spoken Chinese into a western writing? How does poetry transform into song or improvisation?
Featuring The Hermes Experiment – a contemporary quartet of harp, clarinet, voice and double bass. They are Park Lane Group Young Artists 2015/16 and were winners of Nonclassical’s Battle of the Bands 2014 and you can expect a virtuosic, quirky and brilliant performance.
The programme will feature new works by Andrew Thomas, Jia Chai, a song cycle by Freya Waley-Cohen and poet Octavia Bright, and a new piece devised by The Hermes Experiment in collaboration with poet Ali Lewis as well as pieces by Josephine Stephenson and Meredith Monk.
