Long Song of Solitude

A celebration of the music and influence of Canadian composer Claude Vivier. The event features his masterwork, Lonely Child, or as he refers to as his ‘long song of solitude’.

Nicole Lizée’s new piece for London Sinfonietta draws inspiration from Vivier’s work, addressing isolation in contemporary society. Her style blends video, soap opera plots and electronics into new music that provides a commentary on daily life.

The concert involves the combined forces of the London Sinfonietta sitting side-by-side with the next generation of exciting musicians to emerge from the Royal Academy of Music and features the extraordinary talents of conductor Ilan Volkov and soprano Claire Booth.
