An Edinburgh Festival Fringe 5 Star Award Winning solo music-theatre performance starring Frances M Lynch featuring our own Caroline Herschel, discoverer of 8 comets and 14 nebulae; Mary Somerville, “Queen of the Sciences”; Williamina Fleming, the world famous “Astronomer fae Dundee”; and some of Herschel Museum’s contemporary Wonderwomen of Space.
Beautiful music old and new, classical and traditional, including Hildegard von Bingen, George Frideric Handel, Helen Hopekirk, Marie Dare, Isobel Dunlop, a specially commissioned work from one of the UK’s leading female composers, Lynne Plowman and “Minerva Mathematica” by Frances M Lynch, written for the Science Museum, London and recently broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
Minerva Scientifica is an evolving music-theatre project reflecting the lives and work of British Women Scientists told through the music of British Women Composers. The project is currently touring the UK, working with Science Historian, Dr Patricia Fara, National Library of Scotland, and with scientists from Historic Environment Scotland, Institute of Physics Scotland, National Trust and Sussex University, and has run major projects at King’s College London, Newcastle and Edinburgh Napier Universities.
