MUSSON + BERESFORD | STEPHENS + BUTCHER + LIAVIK SOLBERG
Rachel Musson is a saxophonist, improviser and composer living in London, UK. She is involved with a variety of improvisation projects, including trios with Pat Thomas and Mark Sanders (Shifa Live at Cafe Oto due out on 577 Records in July 2019), and with Hannah Marshall and Julie Kjaer, a nonet “I Went This Way” featuring composition and spoken word, and several other collaborations with improvisers.
Steve Beresford has been a central figure in the British and international spontaneous music scenes for over forty years, freely improvising on the piano, electronics and other things with people like Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Han Bennink, John Zorn and Alterations (with David Toop, Terry Day and Peter Cusack).
Stephens (b1946) spent most of his teenage playing in R&B bands in Europe. Aged 20 he joined The Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra and during this period experienced his first John Stevens Workshop In 1976 he joined John Stevens Away and worked regularly with JS until his death in 1994.
John Butcher’s work ranges through improvisation, his own compositions, multitracked pieces and explorations with feedback, unusual acoustics and non-concert locations.
Ståle Liavik Solberg
Ståle Liavik Solberg is a Norwegian drummer who is a integral part of Oslo’s thriving improvised music scene. Working with Pan-Scan Ensemble, Party Knüllers, Will it float?, Silva-Rasmussen-Solberg.
