Nicola LeFanu Portrait Concert

The Octandre Ensemble begins its ‘Way Out East’ Composer Portraits series in the sumptuous setting of The Coronet theatre. TH first concert focusses on the music of Nicola LeFanu, and features performances by the Ligeti Quartet, and the soprano Sarah Dacey. LeFanu has chosen music by David Lumsdaine and Elizabeth Maconchy to set her own works in context. She will give an interview to give some background on her choices.

‘LeFanu is renowned for works of imaginative beauty’ (BBC Music Magazine).

The Same Day Dawns, featuring soprano Sarah Dacey, sets vivid fragments from Oriental poems, while Deva casts solo cello as goddess, charting a metaphorical journey through a landscape of sensuous instrumental music.

The acclaimed Ligeti Quartet will also play Lefanu’s second string quartet, and music by her mother, Elizabeth Maconchy.

Programme:

Nicola LeFanu: Songs without words (2005)
for clarinet and string trio

David Lumsdaine: Blue upon Blue (1991)
for solo cello

Nicola LeFanu: The Same Day Dawns (1974)
