Nonclassical Academy // Made to Sound Broken – digital workshop with Ross Fish
To accompany the release of Sealand by Classical Mechanics, Nonclassical presents a digital workshop with Ross Fish, founder of Moffenzeef Modular. Marcas used Ross’ unique modular synthesiser System Moffenzeef to create the music of Sealand, triggering and voicing the gentle glitches and half-spoken fragments heard across the EP.
The first part of the workshop will be an overview of the influences that inspired Ross to design the Moffenzeef instruments. Ross will showcase and discuss other artists’ work and compositional practices, with a large emphasis on micro controller music, generative music, the Arduino movement, and 8 bit synthesis.
The second part will see Ross guide attendees through a piece of software made specifically for this workshop. The software will be a digital emulation of some of the concepts from System Moffenzeef, and attendees will have the opportunity to play with it both during the session and keep it afterwards. In this section Ross will talk about the synthesis techniques as well as the compositional concepts behind the sequencing.
NO PRIOR UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC TECHNOLOGY OR SYNTHESIS IS REQUIRED.
PLEASE NOTE, THE SOFTWARE DESIGNED BY ROSS SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS EVENT WILL ONLY FUNCTION ON MAC OS.
