Nonclassical x Waterloo Festival // Yfat Soul Zisso curates
AN IMMERSIVE CONCERT EXPERIENCE CURATED AND COMPOSED BY NONCLASSICAL ASSOCIATE COMPOSER YFAT SOUL ZISSO, FEATURING VOCALISTS LORÉ LIXENBERG, ROSIE MIDDLETON AND FLEUR DE BRAY.
Stationing four vocalists in separate corners of the St Johns Waterloo space, Nonclassical Associate Composer Yfat Soul Zisso explores themes of solitude and connectedness in this new work, composed for this event. Accompanied by layered electronics, these four distinct voices within contemporary music – including Loré Lixenberg, Rosie Middleton, Fleur de Bray and Zisso herself – present a multi-directional performance, using the space as a canvas to conjure expressive lines and melodies.
Opening the evening, mezzo-soprano Rosie Middleton will perform Esin Gunduz’s En-he-du-an-na-me-en. The work is part of Rosie’s commission series voice(less), which explores voice loss, voicelessness and communication through the mediums of voice, electronics and movement. Inspired by “The Exaltation of Inanna” (Enheduanna, 2300 BCE), this work examines power, resistance and a voice reborn.
NB: St John’s Waterloo will be implementing a socially distanced and safe environment with 50% standing and seated capacity in line with government guidance from 17th May 2021. Practical details will be forwarded to ticket holders prior to the event.
