Philomel is a new vocal ensemble of six professional sopranos, accompanied by basso continuo. Our first recital is in the amazing acoustics of the Brunel shaft, one of the most atmospheric venues in London. We will perform four new commissions, each written with the venue in mind, exploiting the resonance. Alongside these contemporary works will be songs from the era of the Concerto delle Donne – the virtuoso female singers active at the end of the 16th century. Our whole recital features women composers, and is supported by the Ralph Vaughan Williams Trust and the Francis Chagrin Award. It is shaping up to be a stunning evening of vocal power and beauty!
