Reverberate – Borough New Music Series 2
The featured performer for Series 2, “superb young pianist” (Fanfare) Christopher Guild joins Borough New Music for a very special event: the world premiere of a new Piano Sonata by Manchester-based composer Ben Gaunt. Drawing upon architectural principles, each of the four movements of this sonata is inspired by the light from a window that faces towards one of the four compass orientations. Guild follows this with the second piano sonata by Poul Ruders, which is based on change-ringing techniques (what church bell-ringers follow when the bells go round and round in patterns with subtle permutations.) Part of a month of recitals featuring the piano at Borough New Music. Not to be missed!
Programme:
– Ben Gaunt (b. 1984) – Piano Sonata No. 1 (WORLD PREMIERE)
– Poul Ruders (b. 1949) – Piano Sonata No. 2 (1982)
Free admission. Light refreshments are served after the concert.
