Simon McCorry (Cello & Electronics)
McCorry employs the cello with looping and processing, interspersed with drone passages created from manipulated recordings of cathedral bells, to create “hypnotic chance music built up through the asynchronic layering of chord tones, interpolated pitches, and melodic fragments.” (AMN Reviews). On one level the experience is sonically reminiscent of Arvo Pärt in places, and Brian Eno in others. The music for cello is constructed from unsynchronised loops which through accident, chance and coincidence create an evolving bed of atmospheric sound which a solo line interacts with, and in this way is inspired by the music structures of Cage, Reich and Riley.
