Sound: lost and found

Sound walks led by Dr Marcus Leadley, Goldsmiths University and James Bulley (London), Professor Adrian Newton, Bournemouth University and David Rogers (Dorset).

An encounter with environment that’s focused on sound and listening. Participants will need to be at the Salt House in West Bay, Dorset for 10am. After an introductory session we will undertake a circular walk from West Bay to Bridport and back. Specialist field recording equipment will be provided and you’ll be asked to seek out ‘lost’ and ‘hidden’ sounds – from inside objects, underwater sounds and electromagnetic sounds. Following an afternoon workshop session, which will focus on sound preparation, you will use your recordings to help realise the Lost and Found Symphony, a soundscape composition to be produced during a live, improvised performance at 6.pm at the Salt House. The Being Human Festival is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy, this event is supported by Goldsmith University London, DIVAcontemporary STUDIO and West Dorset District Council, Dorset.
