The Joyous Thing 3: Coby Sey: Check Rain, I Am Fya & Euso
Presented by OUTLANDS, The Joyous Thing is an annual gathering for the UK experimental music community and anyone with a curious ear. Following 2021’s online event, we are delighted to return to an in person programme at MK Gallery, which includes a new commission by Coby Sey, performances from emerging artists I Am Fya and Euso, and DJ sets from network members. On the 26 and 27, OUTLANDS will also be taking over Resonance Extra with a series of newly commissioned shows produced by network members including TACO!, ame, Lost Property, Eastern Ear, MK Gallery/Simon Wright, Tor Festival, Daniel W G Mackenzie, and Lukas Hornby.
OUTLANDS is an open membership network that supports and unites producers of experimental, performance-led music, across the breadth of the country. OUTLANDS was initiated in 2018 and developed out of a motivation to pool expertise and resources, encourage equality and accessibility and build local audiences. In 2018-19 we commissioned and toured six new, interdisciplinary productions and an interconnected engagement programme. Since then we have shifted our focus away from touring, focussing on how we can support and connect the national experimental music scene in the new world in which we find ourselves. This feels like the most vital thing we can do at this time. https://www.outlands.network
A key focus for OUTLANDS is to make experimental music accessible to a broad range of audiences across the UK. To support this, we have implemented a ‘pay what you can’ structure, with increments from free to £8, for this event. We ask you to choose the ticket you can afford and leave it to your discretion. Please keep in mind that there are people who will genuinely need the concession tickets.
Generously supported by Arts Council England.
