We are really pleased to announce an evening with Thomas Köner and Jo Thomas. Join us on Köner’s first appearance at IKLECTIK to experience his audiovisual meditations that explore our notion of time, memory and location in person and the celebration of Thomas’ new release coming out in October.
On the same day, Jo Thomas is going to lead “Workshop & Sound Walk” focusing on different ways of how she composes, produces and performs her own music (more info and tickets here: https://iklectikartlab.com/jo-thomas-workshop/).
Thomas Köner successfully combines techniques from the fields of video art, sound art, live performance, music production and cinema. He is active as a video and installation artist, sound artist, live performer and music producer.
He is considered as one of the pioneers of “dark ambient” music, who has been centrally responsible for electronic music’s fascination with depth and reduction. His signature sound is vast, seemingly endless, which at first seems homogenous and infinite, but once exposed to it, when our senses calibrate to the fine nuances of changes, we discover and immerse into abundance of textures, richness of modulations and almost infinite range of sonic titillations. He started producing highly influential albums since the mid 90’s for labels such as Barooni and Mille Plateaux, which were later reissued several times.
As Porter Ricks (with Andy Mellwig), he produced dub-techno albums like Biokinetics (Chain Reaction 1996, reissues 2012 & 2021), which are considered classics within the genre, current release is the album Anguilla Electrica (Tresor Records).
Jo Thomas is a composer and electronic music artist. She is published by several labels including NMC recordings, Naxos, and Entracte and her work has been performed internationally in Italy, France, Japan, California, Brussels, Switzerland and Austria. She works as a musician and composer in London and is due to be a musician in Residence for a Musica this Autumn.
Recent work includes MASSIVE ANGELS a work for OTO SOUND MUSEUM. Sketch of Nature, a new work for the new grange hospital multi-faith chapel, and Seeds, an orchestral work with electronic sound for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. Her work stems from electro-acoustic, glitch based work, electronic generated signals and often new and innovative electronic instruments. In 2012 Jo Thomas won the Golden Nica in Prix Ars Electronica in the Digital Music and Sound Art Category for “Crystal Sounds of a Synchrotron”
She has a degree and Masters from Bangor University and her music is being performed in a solo concert as part of their 100th Anniversary. Jo has a Phd from City University, London in Electroacoustic music composition. She has her own micro la
