*** ROUND 2 NOW OPEN ***

↓ Deadline Monday 6 July 2020 at noon ↓

Cafe Oto and The Sampler are launching a joint open call for reviews of Takuroku releases – a new digital label set up by Cafe Oto providing an outlet for creative new work being created during COVID-19, and as a way to support both the venue and artists. (Read more about Takuroku on The Wire.)

Together we are looking to commission a series of paid reviews for Takuroku releases by UK-based writers, and we are particularly keen to hear from other artists, creators and musicians. We will commission five reviews in this round, and look to commission another five reviews in a second round in June.

We are really excited to be launching this in support of Cafe Oto and new music at this time, and we look forward to more. If you work for an organisation or project and have ideas about how we could support you, get in touch.

To apply you must:

  • be a UK-based writer
  • tell us why you want to be a reviewer (150 words max)
  • tell us what you excites you about Takuroku releases (150 words max)
  • let us know if you are interested in a particular style of artists or releases

The reviews will be:

  • written about a UK-based Takuroku release
  • between 300-500 words
  • featuring a minimum of three sound extracts from the album (3-10″ extracts), which will accompany the text (with permission from Cafe Oto and the artists.)
  • include a bit about you

The commissioned reviews will be paid at £50 each (VAT inclusive where applicable), limited to one review per writer.

These reviews will then be published on a weekly schedule on The Sampler, featuring on our newsletter and socials, and will be shared across the Sound and Music social channels, with over 50k combined followers. See below for examples.
