Musicologist Ilmė Vyšniauskaitė talks to Lithuanian composer Rūta Vitkauskaitė, about learning, walking and the creative process.

Rūta Vitkauskaitė is a composer, violinist and performer with a wide scope of creative interests ranging from Lithuanian folk music to contemporary opera, from electronic music to symphonic scores. Exploring new ways to engage new audiences, Rūta has created walking operas with elaborate stories that unfold during sound walks. After a series of workshops with local communities, walking operas have been performed in London, UK and in Aarhus, Denmark. Rūta’s walking operas are nothing like sound walks and almost nothing like opera in the traditional ways we imagine it.
