Guest Editor – Augustsamara
This month we welcome the exceptionally talented multi-media performance artist, musician and recent graduate of the British Institute of Modern Music London, Rebekah Ubuntu as The Sampler’s Guest Editor!
Rebekah Ubuntu is a London-based multi-media performance artist and musician experimenting with ideas of futurism, rebellion and paradoxes. Their collaborative work has featured on BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac show, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Serpentine Galleries, and European arts institutions. A recent graduate of the British Institute of Modern Music London, they have completed two large scale works: the Afrohouse-inspired EP ‘BELONG’ and the Afrofuturist, Industrial Hip-Hop and Avant-pop-inspired EP ‘CLONE’, slated for release in 2019. Ubuntu places their personal experience at the centre of their experimental, creative process, which borrows from cross-disciplinary practices (e.g. sound art, live art, interactive technology, etc.) and draws from a myriad of references, especially speculative and Afrofuturist works.
